The word "Kirati"

Introduction

The word Kirati is itself rich in culture and history. Hence, It is believed that the term Kirat is derived from Sanskrit word “Kirāta,” refering to the native tribe living in the hilly and mountainous regions.

According to some ancient texts. In the Mahabharata, Bhim meets the people of Kiratas in the eastern part of Videha. Videha, a place at the present time in the state of Bihar. In refrence to early purans, The Kirat people are recognized as distinct from the dominant Indo-Aryan civilization. Over the years, the word Kirat represents a shared culture heritage amongst the various ethnic groups. In addition to reflecting the historical context of these communities, it also reflects their ongoing cultural evolution to preserve their heritage with the present day issues of identity and recognition.
